Hi everyone! It is Rachel back with another video here on livestudyhacks. Today I have another study tip video for you all. As a highschooler myself, a sophomore right now I know that the marking period or semester is coming to close. There are assignments, tests, quizzes, homework all piling right in front of us. And for me personally it has been super difficult, like really difficult to get started on all the work. Because I feel like getting myself distracted, and I keep on telling myself that I can wait until we have 3 days or maybe I can watch a youtube video to come back to this. This is something that is so hard to simply say no, I am not going to do it. I know as highschoolers that there is a lot of stress when comes to semester ends, and it is going to be hard, but remember that we can fight through this together. So in today’s video I want to give you all some tips that you can remember to really help you grind and get all your work done! But these tips are based on your learning style, so I recommend that you all know to figure out your learning style by simply taking a quick quiz online if you do not know already. And make sure you stay to the end, because I will give you some general tips that all learners can use, and are used by many successful students when it comes to the learning process. So what are you waiting for? Let us get started.
Okay the first type of learner we will be addressing are those who are visual. Visual learners typically like to see the information right in front them in the process of diagrams and charts. Many people are visual learners, and I am persona;;y a visual learner. So if you see words, try to process them in images like diagrams and charts. To be more organized in your study process, also try to incorporate mind maps to branch out your studying in a more approachable manner. So it just does not appear to you as a textbook with a lot of paper and is more tangible. You can also be even more organized by using the box method, by putting the topic of the lesson and having subtopics. Then create bullet points for each subtopic and try to scribble everything to maintain a flow. Try to color coordinate your notes, and have each subtopic in a different color. So when you are revising you can associate the color with the topic. You can continue to use these box methods to help with math, when there is a difficult problem try to have the steps for the problems in which you struggled with in a box format. Like step 1, step 2, step 3. After you are done, when you come back to the problem you can pull up that step sheet, so you do not have to spend too much time trying to figure out the problem. For visual learners it is also great to use flashcards. Instead of words, have the topic and draw an illustration on the back so really getting that information in your head. Also for these learners remember that there is youtube as well for topics that are not very much understandable. What you can do is that you can try to look at videos that have a lot of illustrations and try to use them to really help you visualize the topic better. They are short and cute and will really help you. Know in general to try to avoid long pieces of text, because they are not your personal friend. So to combat this use flow charts so you do not have to look at the textbook, but short and concise notes. And if something does not make sense to you use symbols like start to revisit something, question marks if something does not make sense, and lastly exclamation points for very important pieces of information
The next type of learner we will be discussing are those who are auditory. Like you probably guessed, auditory learners like to get their information being listened to. So I would mention for those who are auditory if they can record their teacher and play it back so you can pick up information that you did not hear before. Or even record yourself reading the information. Or create a song and do some rhyme. Even for visual learners I find that auditory sometimes works, really hearing yourself say the words can make a big difference because there is something else when you hear yourself saying it and you will remember it on your test. You can also use these techniques when practicing for a presentation. Even though your voice may be cringy, you can easily get over it. Also attend group study sessions so that you can engage in these conversations and group discussion. You can hear your group and connect with the topic on a more profound level. Unlike visual learners, who draw these illustrations and diagrams make sure auditory learners write a description and read it out loud. If you are tired of reading out loud, read the important stuff. All in all, remember that auditory learners read stuff out loud to really see results when it comes to study. Remember that you are the type of learners that get distracted by noise so try to prevent noises and find a quiet place to study.
The last type of learners are kinesthetic. These learners like doing things hand one, and there are rare types of learners. But never fear, we have just enough tips to really help you study for maximum success that many really are not aware of. Number 1 tip is to make models for you or diorama, so you see your topic first hand and experience it. Also attend field trips go to the zoo really make sure you get your information into perspective.Really know this because I know this helps me because you know in history if you are learning about the american revolution and if you live close to a battlefield or a museum visit it so you get an experience and are fully aware of the information you are studying. It makes it more fun and really helps to have real connections with the topic you are learning. Also make sure that you are standing and keep moving and invest in a standing desk. For these types of learners it is harder to concentrate for a longer period of time, so stay moving. Spin something or distract yourself and just keep moving while you are studying. Like taking breaks and exercising whatever it takes. Also maybe have a yoga ball and use it when you get tired when you are studying. All in all remember to keep moving and make sure to experience first hand whatever you are learning in school!
Now I would really like to mention some final tips generally to keep in mind from successful students who say that these strategies really helped them succeed in seeing absolute improvements in their grades. First, do not delay things, focus on the class and review the material right after class so it makes it easier when you revise later. This tip quite reminds of those auditory learners who will find this very helpful when it comes to memorization and term studying. Record the terms and their definition and while you are going somewhere like walking have it on repeat and it will be like walking to your own audio book. Because this free time while studying your terms can be very helpful for you. If you are struggling, do not be afraid to talk to your teachers. They are there to help you and make sure you are going to their after school help because they are there for you. You can also talk to students or classmates that have already taken your class and ask them for help. It will really help you in the long run. Also make sure you are planning your day to finish up your work. Use flashcards and follow spaced repetition. We talked about this another video where you revisit these terms in a long period of time so you will lessen the forgetting curve. Make habits and have a balanced lifestyle and have time for self care and ultimately enjoy your high school experience. Get a good amount of sleep! Finally know you, know what setting works best for you like work in a place that gets the most work done. For example, go to a library because maybe if you are around other people who are studying you feel guilty for not studying so it is some sort of accountability. Practice and repetition do some homework problems 3 times the night before so you feel confident and walk in with a great mentality. So guys this ends our video, I hope you really enjoyed this video, and I hope you found some tips that you can apply before the end of the semester to get started on your work fast and get done with it! I wish you all good luck with all your upcoming exams! Thank you guys so much for watching! Bye!! See you all in the next video 🙂
