Just a reminder, To help support our channel and the charity we are supporting children of incarcerated parents, please make sure to subscribe and like this video, more information is on my website linked down below! So let’s get on to this video. Brain fog is something that everyone has experienced at any given point of time. Even for the smartest individuals who are great at memory brain fog seems to be a barrier that seems so difficult to break.  If you are struggling with concentration, forgetfulness, extreme feeling of tiredness, and most simplistic terms you have felt that your brain just stopped working, watching this video could probably be your ultimate lifesaver.

So What exactly is brain fog? In essence, brain fog is when your mental health has slowed  down and you’re exhausting yourself by employing willpower to fight against. Think about it like when your computer crashes, but instead of your computer it is your brain. Ouch, that is kind of hard to think about. But I will be the first to admit it, I have had such experiences, and let me tell you, I never could find a way on how to combat them. So after doing some research, I am going to share with you the number one way to overcome brain fog is to let your mind wander. And I know you might be wanting to tell me Rachel is that the number one way to clear brain fog is to let your mind wander. I am a highschooler. I have piles of work to complete. Why should I sit down and take the time to make my mind wander. Well there have been studies shown that when you have 10 minutes to  get up and move after every hour, taking showers, or doing any sort of simple tasks that do not require much thought you get your best ideas. I watched a video in which someone actually tried this in which he limited the usage of his phone to 30 minutes and did some boring things like counting the number of 0 in pi, he was then able to enter a lower state of mind in which he was able to create new ideas for himself. By limiting the technology in his life, he was able to let his mind wander to create a new perspective of life that he never felt before. So  let your mind wander! To add on to the idea of mind wandering, by doing something that seems to be calm or relaxing to you can really be more beneficial in the long run in subjects that require more analytical thinking. For example, I recently have been exposed to crocheting by a friend, and once I have mastered the art of crocheting I hope to one day to actually use it as a means for replacement in which I can have a notebook right  next to me to generate new thoughts. So lower the amount of your work you have to do to let your mind wander to get some revolutionary ideas!

Next in order to clear up your brain fog is to create a diet for maximum performance. As a high schooler or middle schooler, some of us might feel like we do not have much control of what we eat on a day to day basis. But the first and easiest thing we can do to add to a healthy diet is snack or eat something that can simply help us limit brain fog! And these are livestudyhackers berries! Blueberries are anti-inflammatory and like I mentioned before in another video blueberries are often known as brain berries and are fruits that should be incorporated in your snack or any meal of the day. Next, is to keep your blood sugar stable, if you have too much sugar in your system, you can see through the lighting of the MRI that you will have slower functioning hippocampus when you have sugar. Having a poor diet can cause for a cloudy brain, try to eliminate high msg, diary, and artificial powders and try to add the vitamin B-12 and vitamin D to your diet. To close of this tip, having a well thought out diet, can help eliminate the wariness or the tiredness feeling you may have to feeling more alert at any place or time!

Next is to know that to take care of your mental health you must also perform physical health. That is why during Covid 19, we saw people setting up their own gym to preserve their physical and mental health. There are 86 billion neurons connected with your spinal cord. So it is important to workout. So If there are days or weeks in which you have to be on your ultimate A  games more than others. You have to perform a High intensity interval training workout, and do not give yourself any slack. Heart adapts when we work out so does the brain adapt to it as well. When you are exercising your brain is being exposed to stress.

We produce something called FDNF5, which are Brain derived neurotrophic factors that produce neurons. The more we exercise, it can be said that we can even pick up a book and flip right to the page we need! So exercise even though it seems hard!

I would like to close this video with a few final tips on how to take care of your brain health.Number 1, learn a new vocabulary word every day, your brain is going to start working and this will be more beneficial for you as well, because you are developing a list of vocabulary words to use in the future. Second, declutter your desk, it is important to stay organized so while you are working you do not get brain fog. Third, taking a cold shower like exercising exposes you to beta endorphins which produce stress. And also cold showers produce dopaminergic transmission, the same type of dopamine you get from eating any type of sugar or pizza. But the difference is this is a good type of dopamine that lasts for a long time. Once you change your psychology that this water is actually doing you good. My last and final tip is to practice gratitude. Before you go to bed or any time throughout the day get a notebook and write 3 things that you are grateful for. Gratitude practice help us improve our thinking, cognitive function, and mood.
