But before we start this video, just a reminder to help support our channel and charity Children of incarcerated parents, please make sure to subscribe and like this video, more information is on my website linked down below. So let’s go on to this video. With the seasons changing and the days getting shorter, the mood for most of us changes as well. We can often feel anxious, happy, and joyful during this season, and these sudden changes of motions can make us feel confused. After being a year at home during the New year gatherings, confronting loving friends and family can be difficult, and to make matters a little bit more relatable for us highschooler/middle schoolers we came back from a difficult week of school, and all we want to do is stay home and sleep during this winter break. It is the overwhelming amount of the emotions that are scary that comes with New Year that make us anxious about what is to come. But livestudyhackers you do not have to feel that way, because with the tips we are going to talk about today will help you control the craziness that comes with the celebrations. So let’s get started.
So the first tip that I have is to be yourself and be authentic. It is important to stay true to who you are. And do not let anyone change it for you, be your absolute self. Love yourself, and I believe as a current highschooler that this is advice you should definitely take to heart. Focus on yourself is another way to put it. During the pandemic, we have looked at our mental health and we now know what type of emotions we are feeling. This season in particular we can now acknowledge our feelings, therefore allowing us to ask ourselves questions regarding the uncertain amount of emotions we feel in our day to day lives such as, “Are we anxious? Are we happy? Are we joyful? We can remove ourselves from the stress that society brings and do some breathing experiences. This time of reflection can ultimately remove the negative emotions we feel and maybe allow us to reprioritize our needs and make it a priority to check within ourselves. Further allowing us to simply use these thoughts as data points and cut the things in life that make us not feel well. Be present at the moment, and do things during this year that make you happy and take care of yourself. Don’t overextend yourself, and stop burning yourself out, and grab a calendar and do something on your bucket list. And you need to know that sometimes you need in this year you need a self care day, whether that may be getting enough sleep, exercising, eating well, and simply accepting the needs that you have. Be yourself, and I really want you guys to take this tip to heart and during the new year season, reflect on the memories you had in 2021, and continue to be your true-self in this new year. All in all to close off this tip,you should acknowledge these feelings because during this time of year it can be your secret weapon to showing others a new confident and improved version of yourself by just embracing your true self.
Speaking about the friends and family in your life, sometimes it is impossible to cut the things in your life that make you unhappy. But it is important to remind yourself that this is short term and is not going to happen forever. And nobody is expecting you to be perfect. Remember when dealing with difficult people during this New Year, just know that each person is different, not difficult and that they are not always going to align with your expectations. But know that you have to stay true to yourself no matter what others think of you. And if the situation grows worse make a plan. A plan in which you can see the people that love and motivate you. A plan in which you practice giving verbal cues to your family in which eases out the difficulty of the situation and diminishes the fear of the response that a family member might give you. Just simply practice something that says I really do not feel comfortable talking about this right now. That is the end of the story. And to go further with this tip identify your coping strategy or an exit strategy in means of avoiding possible circumstances and keep yourself distracted. For example, find a way to host or set a time limit in which you can stay and leave. You should dictate the sort of boundaries with the difficult people you might meet during the New Year. And to close this piece of advice with managing hard people, know that you don’t have to try too much, it is okay to say no.
My last final and third tip is to foster gratitude. We must recognize that everyone is trying their best to cope up with these difficult times from the pandemic and it is important for us to have a little compassion. People feel sadness getting in the way from work and from school. And many are experiencing grief especially, in recognizing the empty seat at the table. With the grief and the sensitive trauma, it is important to practice reaching out for support and help those who are experiencing such loss. Do not let these people isolate and make an invitation and find special things to do with them and tell them how thankful that you are to have that particular person in your life and listen to their needs. Because listening goes a long way for anyone, I heard once that it is important to be quick to listen and slow to speak. So make sure you take that advice with you in this new year. And if you are this person who lost a loved one during the craziness of this year, create a gratitude list. Another valuable thing you could do is when you are trying to display gratitude write a note to someone who you want to thank. It is almost impossible to feel anger if you want to thank someone.
